We’re Seeking Candidates for Our Board
of Directors
In order to expand our capacity to serve our community and grow as an organization, Afghan Cultural Society is seeking qualified individuals to join our board of directors. Ideal candidates will have a strong connection to Afghan or immigrant communities, or a willingness to learn more about issues faced by the Afghan community. Candidates should be willing to commit to two years as an active board member, investing up to 5 hours per month and attending 1 meeting per month with fellow board members as well as attending major ACS events when possible.

Board Member Expectations
• Support and uphold the mission, values and goals of ACS.
• Actively participate in defining and implementing the organization’s strategic vision and plans and ensuring that program and financial support is in place to support the vision.
• Support annual fundraising efforts.
• Attend ACS major events when possible.
• Attend monthly board meetings with the flexibility of missing several per year with communication to the board president.
• Commit to staying on the board for at least one term (two years) but no more than two terms (four years).
• Review monthly BOD financial reports and program updates.
• Be familiar with the organization’s bylaws, personnel policies, and other key policies guiding governance and operational practices and provide feedback for improvements (these will be provided to you).
•Participate in the annual evaluation of ACS director.
•Assist in identifying prospective board members.
