A Message to the Afghan Cultural Society Community
The attacks against immigrants and refugees which have taken place over the last few weeks have sown fear and uncertainty amongst our friends, family, neighbors, and colleagues. Please know there are people standing up and fighting against these attacks and advocating for Afghans here and abroad. At this time there is no expected disruption in programming at Afghan Cultural Society.
We are preparing for 2025 to be our strongest programming year yet, with continued support navigating social services, education systems, and healthcare. Our mental health teams are working hard developing new programs for all ages and tailored to meet the needs of a wide population of Black, brown, and Indigenous immigrants and refugees. Our artists and cultural preservationists are preparing new classes and events for all to learn from
and enjoy.
Though executive orders suspending refugee programs have closed some pathways to maintaining necessary services and organizing cultural programs that provide for community needs and bring us joy, we will do our best to carve out new ones. In 2019 I joined this organization to advocate for the Afghan community, preserve Afghan culture, and challenge the western narrative of who we are. I am committed to continuing to advocate for our community and secure a permanent cultural center.
With love and solidarity,
Nasreen Sajady
Executive Director
