Assister services- Help clients by connecting them to various resources within the community and assist them in applying for state and county benefits, such as, food, cash, childcare assistance, emergency assistance, unemployment and health insurance. Some of the connections and referrals we make are for English courses, housing, immigration, employment, household furnishings, food-shelves etc. Our assisters are not case workers, or social workers, but are able to help assist, guide and orient clients through the new culture they are apart of, by removing barriers. This is done through one on one relationship building, using a family wellbeing inventory at intake and follow up every 6 months to measure the progress.
Family Coaching- Is a supportive service for families with children ages 5-18 year old who need assistance in navigating the education system. issues with school attendance ."Family Coaches" are accomplished individuals who are able to support and help families address barriers that can impact their child's school performance and attendance at school.
Mental Health- ACS has partnered with Center for Victims of Torture (CVT) and UMN School of Social Work to offer mental health services for adults.
Tutoring- ACS provides tutoring to students in high-school on Tuesdays, via AmeriCorps and UMN Law Students.
Education Credential Evaluation & Transfers: We have partnered with World Education Services (WES) to evaluate and convert educational credentials from Afghanistan into their U.S. equivalents. WES evaluations are widely accepted and often specifically requested by academic institutions, licensing boards, employers and government agencies throughout the U.S. (WES also administers a separate credential evaluation service in Canada.
Notary & Unofficial Document Translation- Notary Public services are available at ACS along with ability to translate non certified documents.
Clothing Closet –ACS has a clothing closet with culturally appropriate clothing that can be accessed by all Afghans.
Drop-in Space – Afghans and their friends are free to stop-by Monday-Thursday from 10-6 and Friday 10-3 for assistance with any of the above mentioned services.
